Hi, all.
I was wondering if there might be a way to code the site so that users who ignore others' quicknotes, etc. might also not have to see said ignorees' custom log in messages, or the announcement of their logging in at all.
Just a thought.
Thanks,
Julia
that's a good idea julia, if you have them on ignore then why would you even want to knw they loged in?
nice one
Julia, thank you for posting this. My log in, is often quite rude and offensive and seems to upset a few. it's caused problems for the odd person who has me on ignore, and who can't see that I agree with their sentiment that this could be avoided, but then I'm the kind who just scrolls past something I don't like, so it doesn't bother me. But would be a good idea to keep some quiet.
It's easy enough to scroll past log in messages. I have often not even noticed when someone has changed their custom log in message until it is no longer new.
Um, can we say overdramatic? If you're ignoring someone, seeing their login message isn't really that big a deal. As Becky said, it's easy enough just to scroll past, and even if it's an offensive login, it's not like it's a direct comment to you, so it shouldn't matter. That's like the people who want it so that they can't even see the names of people they're ignoring when they look at the login list. Maybe it's just me, but it seems like extra work for no apparent reason.
There are just so many lazy people on here who want the admins to customize the site just for them so they won't have to tap a few keys.
I agree with Julia on this one.
A login message is essentially a public quicknote. If I'm ignoring publics from some user, why should I see her/his login message? Laziness is a non-issue here; it's a matter of consistency in the user interface.

I agree with Julia. I'd not want to see those logins who I'm ignoring. What's the point of seeing a login for someone who you're ignoring? None!

I think i am the oposite. I wish i could see the logging messages even if we had pubblicks off. I think they could be funny to read.
I would even suggest in somebody's text profile for their logging message to be included if they have got one.
But i don't ignore anyone so i don't understand how people who ignore others might feel about these messages.
It was just a suggestion.
Thanks
I agree with wx1g and Julia on this one. After all, offensive is offensive, ignore is ignore (everything), so why not be consistent about it.
Good idea.
Bob
Ah Becky, I've come up with an idea as a result of your last comment. if you as jaws users wait long enough, Freedom science fiction will customise jaws with a script forzone bbs, it will allow you to set verbocity levels so that the admin no longer needs to do any more coding here. :P
Ah BlackBird, I've come up with an interesting idea, why don't you window-eyes users come up with a set file that will cause you to ignore yourself. Now, that would be interesting.
Bob
I agree with Julia and the ones who don't want to see the login messages of the people that we have on ignore. If we are ignoring them, then what is the point of us having to deal with there login messages. at least make it an option to ignore randomizer login messages from people on ignore.
I'll bring this one up on the staff mailing list and see what the Admin's have to say. Personally I like the idea well enough. I don't have anybody on ignore so can't say that it's something that has any direct bearing on me but I can certainly see the logic behind the suggestion.
Thanks. Dan.
if we were to be consistent with the user interface, we'd also have to take the users who are ignored out of the user list, and have the option to ignore them from the ventrilo list as well. I certainly wouldn't wanna code all that...
ever heard of private qns? turn off publics if the log ins of certains users bother you.
Bob, I'm not sure if this is because you're a jaws user, or just because you're stupid, but I wouldn't need to do that, as it's already incredibly easy to ignore yourself within the sites current coding. though it's incredibly pointles unless you frequently quick note yourself.
I agree with Julia, but I like Nikos's idea about having them included in the profile. That'd be amusing...
Blake, you're right; 'tis a lot of coding. I'm not suggesting it all be done at once. The Zone is evolving nicely.
